In an event not too dissimilar to an evening at the Academy Awards, the Ardmore Marist senior teams celebrated their respective achievements from the 2018 season and recognised the outstanding contributions from individual players, management, supporters and our sponsors on Saturday.
Special mention was given to our physiotherapy team. Led by Sarah Fanuatanu our physiotherapy team is renowned, not only throughout the union and in wider rugby circles, but also other sporting codes across New Zealand. Club President and MC Glenn Flavell said "We are blessed to have Sarah and Arisan Paki with our senior teams this season and we are so very thankful for their dedication, time and expertise."
Warmest appreciation was also given to our 2018 senior club sponsors, many of whom have been avid supporters of the club for many years. "Kelly has done some fantastic work in securing trust funding again this year, however our success on the field is made possible and shared with our major sponsors South Auckland Motors Ford and Mazda, MetroGas, The Blacksmith Bar and Eatery, Ross Roof Group, EZGO and the many small businesses and Mum and Dad sponsors who have got in behind our club again this season." Flavell said. "I want to make special mention of John Bell and Drury Meats, who have sponsored much of the meat for our after match meals this year. JB has some of the best selection of quality meat in Auckland and he is well worth a visit on your next shopping trip or if you are driving through Drury." Thanks were conveyed to the committee and volunteers who worked to support the club throughout the season and Kelly Flavell was presented with flowers to show appreciation for her efforts preparing aftermatch meals and running the kitchen during junior and senior games.
Life Member and co-patron Matthew Newman was thanked for his additional support behind the scenes in a player mentoring role and for his work with the committee relating to club development and sustainability.
Flavell also thanked the ball boys Keneti Fanuatanu, Kyan Young and Tyler Sanft who have been with the Premier and Premier Reserve teams throughout the season, both home and away.
The Premier 1 team who played in the final were presented their playing jersey's which had been specially embroidered to mark the championship win.
A special presentation arranged by Greg Goldfinch, was also made to Whaiora Rangiwai and Alesio Petelo on behalf of the Ardmore Marist Old Boys. The two Premier Centurions were presented with a framed photograph of themselves with their families after the McNamara Cup win last weekend. Alesio gave an emotional speech of gratitude to the Old Boys for the presentation and said he was humbled and grateful to the club and his family for supporting his passion over many years playing the game.
Preparation and planning is already underway for the 2019 season and best wishes were conveyed for a safe representative season and summer to all of our players and supporters.
