Te Puna Rugby Club were founded in 1919 and are representing the Bay of Plenty at the 2021 National Club 7s tournament.
The sevens programme at Te Puna is spearheaded by coach Marty Stevenson, who puts the success down to its fun culture.
“We try and make everything enjoyable, trainings are always game based, sevens is about being able to deliver in those moments." Stevenson explained.
"So, I just think you can get a much better blow on and then learn much more while doing games, as opposed to running around doing mindless shuttles” he said.
Te Puna are stoked to be back at the Nationals in 2021 and will be bringing plenty of flair.
The core of the team have been playing together for a few years now so they gel well, but we can expect a few fresh faces and few new moves come tournament day.
Players to watch include the halves combo of Captain Te Aihe Toma and Jordy Stone. Big men up front Etonia Waqa and Jesse Church will bring plenty of muscle and power.
Hot off last weekends Mount 7s tournament and 2020 Middlesex Cup semi finalists, Te Puna will be hot contenders and a team to watch on Saturday.
